Interested in American History and stories of old? You have to check out Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh ! In Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series Rush Limbaugh and his wife, Kathryn, recount stories from early American History with a twist.
Now I know what you’re thinking. A book written by talk show host and conservative ranter, Rush Limbaugh, how is that going to be? Well, I understand your thinking. I reviewed these books out of curiosity but also because, like Rush, I too believe that not enough young people know the stories and accounts of our early history.
The whole premise of this series is to follow Rush Revere (aka Rush Limbaugh) in pursuit of time traveling with his magical, talking and time shifting horse Liberty as they jump between the past and the present. This series is history plus drama with a little bit of science fiction thrown in for flavor.
The first book, Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, Rush Revere and his side kick Liberty, a talking horse, become involved in teaching a middle school history class. Uniquely weaving a plot to teach some reluctant middle school students about America’s past while ‘magically’ seeing it relived “in real time” by Rush and Liberty. With a shout and a yell, Liberty has his friend “Rush Rush Rushing into History”. Landing back in the Netherlands pre-Pilgrim settlement, Rush meets a cast of characters of that time. William Bradford is first on the all star historical cast of members. Readers are also treated to the first encounter with the colony and the Indians, plus Thanksgiving.
Book 2 is Rush Revere and the First Patriots where you’ll meet King George III and go to a party.
Book 3 is Rush Revere and the American Revolution.
Book 4 is Rush Revere and the Star Spangled Banner.
And finally Book 5 is Rush Revere and the Presidency.
Our Experience with The Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series
One of the VERY first things I noticed about this series was how beautifully made the books are. The book itself is hardbound with a wonderfully illustrated sleeve. The pages within each book are heavy, glossy paper. I’m sure these were created as such to be read and re-read over and over again. Also in each book there are PLENTY of wonderful illustrations, reproductions of maps, people and other drawings. These really helped to bring the past into understanding with each reference. Those were some big, big bonuses of these books for me.
I read these aloud to my 13 and 7 year olds. Now, we’ve done a lot of history learning through out the years so the stories aren’t new to us. My 13 year old found the recounts of history interesting and consistent to what she’s already learned. But she didn’t care for the “present day” interaction between Rush Revere and the middle school kids and just the middle school kids interactions in general. Think about the general mindset of the “average” middle school and that’s about it. There’s some bullying and attitudes and that “tween mindset” going on. She lost interest in these sections of the books and quite honestly, I did to. So while we enjoyed the ‘back in history’ portions, I did do my best to skim over the present time portions.
Final Thoughts on The Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series
I do believe that those who have not gotten a good foundation in early american history or do not know much of our early timeline would benefit greatly from these books and I think they would be a welcomed Christmas or birthday gift.
