Over the years I’d heard so much about Advent. Advent this and Advent that.
What exactly is Advent?
A good friend of mine summed it up easily for me. It’s the 25 days before Christmas where you lead your family in a focused time of learning more about Jesus, celebrating his birth and spending purposeful quality time together as a family.
Sounds good enough! But where to begin and how do I fit more into an already full schedule?
This friend also suggested two really good books, PLUS, concentrating on putting extra effort into doing Advent activities one day of the week so as not to get overwhelmed.
Sounds good – I can do that too!
We choose Sundays to do our Advent activities which include an extra devotional and lighting one of the four Advent candles.
I was fortunate this year to have extra coupons to buy a fancy candle holder at Hallmark for cheap — but that isn’t necessary. In addition to needing to replace a few of our family games, I was blessed to get them on deep discount. Each of these four games I gift wrapped and we open one each Sunday for a fun game night.
Another idea given to me by my friend was getting a 1000 piece puzzle to work on as a family over the Advent season. This has proven a bit challenging with our preschooler!
